Remedies For Toothache
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009There are a number of remedies for toothache which can provide you with tooth pain relief. However the thing to keep in mind is that not all these toothache remedies will work for everyone. It is still worth trying these as they may help to ease the pain in your tooth until you can get to a dentist.
1. Oil of Cloves is a common remedy for toothache which can help ease the pain in many cases. You can buy this Oil of Cloves from any pharmacist. Basically you will apply a couple of drops over the tooth that is causing pain and let it seep into the gum. Or you could dip some cotton wool into the oil and put it on the tooth and gently bite down on it. You will need to use the oil with care because if it gets on your tongue or other areas in the mouth, you will get a burning sensation. Apart from that this treatment is capable of providing pain relief from toothache.
2. Salt can also be beneficial in easing the pain of toothache. It’s best to mix a little salt in some warm water and swill it around your mouth before spitting it out. Although this may work for mild toothache, it will not do much for severe toothache pain. However it is still worth trying to see if it has any effect. Try doing this every few hours.
3.Vanilla extract can act as an effective home remedy for toothache. Applying a few drops onto the painful tooth can temporarily take away the pain. You can purchase this virtually anywhere.
4. Another good remedy for an aching tooth is to chew on a raw onion. Onions have anti-bacterial properties and can also help numb pain. Try to chew the piece of onion around the tooth that is causing pain. This way the juice of the onion will go directly into the gum. Again this treatment will not do agreat deal for a really bad toothache, but it may give you a respite from the pain for a short while.
When I was in my teens my father had told me to put whiskey on the tooth that was hurting. I had dipped some cotten wool in some whiskey and placed it on the tooth that was hurting and bit gently down on it. I kept it there for a few minutes and it did seem to have done the trick. The problem was that I managed to get through a quarter bottle of whiskey in 2 days. Not something that you want to do when you are fifteen years old. I can’t say for sure if the pain relief that I got was from the whiskey, or if I was too tipsy to care. But you could try this method as it is an old home remedy for toothache, and may give you some relief for tooth pain.
Hopefully one of these remedies for toothache will be effective for you. But sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go to the dentist.
