It’s always better to avoid looking for tooth pain relief by preventing it in the first place, rather than having to cure it. Unfortunately this is not always as easy as it sounds. Tooth gum disease is a very common problem for many of us in the modern world. Yes dentists will tell you that you need to look after your teeth by regular brushing and flossing, but the truth is that even this may not stop you suffering from tooth infections.

The biggest cause behind the problems of toothache and gum disease is sugar. There are not many foods which do not contain this ingredient to some degree. Even fruit contains natural sugar (fructose) which can be damaging to teeth in the long run. Apart from this, many fruits are acidic in nature, and the acid can wear away at your teeth eventually.

Nobody can say that they are going to keep away from sugar in order to keep teeth heathy. The fact is that if you want to do this successfully, then the bulk of yoir diet will have to consist of fresh vegetables, not really a lot of fun for the majority of us. Try checking the labels of all the canned food in your kitchen, and you will see that the vast majority will contain some levels of sugar. I haven’t even mentioned things like cookies, pastries, cakes, and other foods containing high levels of sugar.

I know this all sounds a bit gloomy, but there are actions that you can take which can limit your tooth decay. The first is to add more raw vegetables to your diet. This works in two ways. First you get some valuable nutrients which strengthen your body’s abilities to fight infection and disease. Secondly the chewing action stimulates your gums and makes them stronger. Also the fact that most raw vegetables contain no sugar means that the juices won’t have any negative effect, and will result in heathy gums and healthy teeth.

The other thing is to brush your teeth more, and floss more regularly. Many of us only brush our teeth once or twice a day, this for some reason seems to be the accepted norm. However when you think that the time between brushing our teeth (morning and night) is the time that our teeth are most under attack through eating, it makes sense that we should be brushing our teeth at some time during the day.

A good idea would be to lightly brush your teeth after each meal. This can be difficult for many people who have jobs that don’t allow this, but you don’t have to carry toothpaste around with you. Dry brushing or brushing your teeth with water can be pretty effective, and it can take just a minute or two. Even just rinsing your mouth out a few times a day can be beneficial.

I know that many people will probably not follow this advice, or they may try it for a short time, and this is fine because it is always a question of choice. However forming these steps into a habit does not take long, and in the long run it will keep you away from rotting teeth and save you having to look for tooth pain relief.
